WHERE DOES THE HUNT TAKE
PLACE? This hunt takes place in a part of Pakistan
that really is not Pakistan at all. The Northern Area of Pakistan
borders China and the hunts took place near the Khunjerab
Pass. The people of this area come from different parts
of the Pamir, Karakoram and Wakhan Corridor areas of central
Asia. They are very friendly, welcoming people who you will
soon find to be your new best friends. The guides are
knowledgeable and hard working and you will find no better
guides in the world. Pakistan is a wonderful and diverse country
and should be put high on your priority list of places to
hunt. This is the only place in the world that you can hunt
the Himalayan Ibex. Our partner in Pakistan is a member of
the Royal Family of Hunza, who controlled this region for
900+ years, i.e., you are in excellent hands and will be treated
like royalty.
If you have hunted ibex in Mongolia,
Kazakhstan, Kyrgistan, Tajikistan, Turkey or Spain you will
be missing out if you don’t take the opportunity to hunt in
Pakistan.
HOW LONG IS THE HUNT AND
WHAT IS THE COST? Our hunts are 10 days, with
a 14 day schedule from the U.S. Price is $7900 from arrival
in Gilgit. Hunting is done on foot from comfortable housing
in the local villages. Ibex rut is in mid-December through
early January. February/March finds the ibex pushed down from
higher areas due to snow. We looked at many ibex on this recent
hunt and saw several big ibex in the 44-46” + class. We took
a 41” and a 45”…both excellent trophies. The first ibex was
taken on the first day of the hunt and the second was taken
on day 4. This allowed us a bit of time to see some of the
“roof top of the world”. This region is home to some of the
worlds highest mountains, including K2, Nanga Parbat and Rakaposhi.
Unbelievable scenery!
HOW DO I GET THERE?
There are direct flights from New York to Islamabad
on PIA (Pakistan International). From Islamabad you will travel
via the KKH (Karakoram Hwy) or if you prefer you can fly directly
to Gilgit. From Gilgit you will travel about 3 to 4 hours
by paved road (KKH) to the hunting area.
