Elephant

The quest for ivory was one of the major reasons Africa was initially explored.  Contrary to what anti-hunters claim, elephant are abundant and found throughout Southern Africa, Central Africa and East Africa.  We offer hunts in Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Botswana, Zambia, Mozambique, Cameroon and South Africa.  Please note that elephant from Mozambique, Zambia and Cameroon cannot currently be imported into the U.S.

Botswana is typically considered when heavy tuskers are desired.  Our hunters typically take ivory in the 60-75 pound range with an occasional tusker found in the 90 + pound range.  Ivory from Botswana is generally thick, heavy and shorter than the East African ivory found in Tanzania.

Deka, Chirisa, Matetsi, Chete, Toslatso and the Save areas of Zimbabwe are known as the best elephant areas in Zimbabwe.  You can expect ivory in the 35-45 pound range, but 65 pounders have been taken.  You may be one of the real lucky hunters that take a tusker in the 70 + pound range.

The Selous area of Tanzania consistently produces 6-7 foot tusks and we are very proud of our outfitters’ 90% success rate for big elephant.  If you are after long, slim and elegant tusks to grace your trophy room, there is no better place in Africa to go.  The Selous is the last wild paradise left on the planet and encompasses over 31,000 square miles of prime habitat totally uninhabited by man.  This is as good as it gets and the prices are amazingly competitive.

Elephant safaris vary from 10 to 30 days and short hunts for tuskless cows or bulls are often possible.  Additional game varies with the area and company, but on some elephant hunts you can also take lion, leopard, buffalo and plainsgame.
